‘Postal workers help people’
Minnesota carrier delivers life-saving package
When Cottage Grove, MN, Rural Carrier Jeffrey Hinchcliffe attempted to deliver a package to his customer’s home, no one answered the door.
That’s when Hinchcliffe heard a faint cry for help coming from behind a locked garage door. Hinchcliffe called 911.
Emergency medical personnel and police entered the garage through a back door and found the homeowner lying on the floor, unable to move and in need of medical attention. He had apparently fallen on a stair and had been lying in the unheated garage for hours.
The customer was taken to a hospital. A few days after the accident, he was in good condition.
Ironically enough, the package Hinchcliffe was delivering was addressed to “Mom and Dad.”
“I guess in a way it was fortunate that I was delivering it to them from the kids,” said Hinchcliffe. “I’ve never had an experience similar to this, but postal workers help people from time to time. Carriers, they’re kind of always there.”
